JAPPATOWNE, MD (WFIE) - A Beaver Dam, Kentucky man has been killed in Maryland.

Sheriff's Deputies in Hartford County, Maryland, say 59-year-old Charles Shourds was shot several times and died Wednesday afternoon.

A woman told deputies she shot Shourds after he beat and raped her several times over the last week while he was visiting her.

The woman says, after being raped on Wednesday, she took a shower, got her 9mm pistol and shot Shourds, who was lying on the couch. The woman waited at a neighbors house for authorities to arrive.

She is being charged with first degree murder.
