HENDERSON CO. KY (WFIE) - A Corydon, Kentucky, man is hit in the stomach with a utility pole.

It happened Monday afternoon along U.S. 41 A.

Kentucky State Police say 20-year-old Jeffery Smith was heading north and texting while driving. Troopers say Smith looked up and swerved to miss an animal in the road.

They say Smith lost control and hit Kenergy utility pole. Troopers say the pole broke in half and fell into the road. Smith made it out of the car and called 911.

Troopers say Rebecca Lagsdon didn't see the guide wires in the road, and when she ran over them, they lodged in her car wheel.

The wires tightened and raised the utility pole, causing it to move quickly and hit Smith in his stomach.

Smith was incapacitated and taken by ambulance to Henderson Community Methodist Hospital.
