OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - The U.S. Department of Transportation has selected Pacific Wings, LLC to provide air service in Owensboro and Jackson, Tennessee.

The combined annual subsidy rate is $2,294,401 for a two year period.

Owensboro gave the recommendation for Pacific Wings earlier this month.

According to documents from the U.S. Department of Transportation, there will be 1,778 flights a year from Owensboro to Nashville. The service from Nashville would continue on to Atlanta.

Pacific Wings told the airport it plans to charge $39 for its flights to Nashville and less than $100 for flights to Atlanta.

Airport manager Bob Whitmer said he hoped Pacific Wings would be chosen because of its successful track record.

"After the experiences we've had with a couple other airlines, the last two go-arounds not staying, well one of them stayed just a matter of weeks and the other one didn't even come at all," Whitmer said. "We want service, we want to get to a hub somewhere."

Those flights could start by September 1.
