EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Middle school students got a taste of college life.

More than 300 students spent the afternoon on the Ivy Tech campus.

The visit was part of the safe schools Healthy Students initiative.

Some lucky students received free bikes while they were learning about what it takes to get into college, something they'll need to know as they head for high school.

"Their leaders in the program do that, also they remind them good attitude, good attendance, good behavior, can earn them rewards in life," EVSC project coordinator for Safe Schools said. "In this case, a bicycle."

As part of the Safe Schools program, students also went through a course on how to use those new bikes safely.
