WABASH CO., IL (WFIE) - A plane went down near Mount Carmel, and claimed the life of it's pilot.

James Bower, 47, from Tennessee, was killed in the crash.

Investigators with the FAA continue investigate the cause of the crash.

Authorities still aren't saying much, but it happened around 3:00 Saturday afternoon.

A small, two seat plane crashed into a Wabash County field.

The area of County Road 840 East and 1250 North in Wabash County was off-limits to the public Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said sometime after 3:00, they received a phone call that a plane crashed into a bean field.

When they arrived, a small, single engine, two seat plane was found totaled.

Wreckage from the plane was scattered everywhere.

The propeller was completely torn-off, and the plane was in pieces. The pilot was dead.

Police and fire crews were at the scene for hours.

Beckerman Airport is located right across the road with a landing strip in view.

It's unknown if that's where the pilot was headed.

Neighbors said they didn't remember seeing the plane.
