EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Evansville's Mesker park Zoo celebrates the Amazonia's first year.
In that year, zoo officials say over 200,000 visitors have stopped by, increasing zoo attendance by more than 60 percent.
"Just hope people embrace the zoo and botanical gardens and make it their own zoo and botanical garden and becomes a real community asset," Mesker Park Zoo Director Amos Morris said. "And we continue to represent them well.
As part of Amazonia's anniversary, educational programs are scheduled for the rest of the month at one o'clock in the afternoon.
Morris says, Amazonia has inspired more than $3,000 in donations for rain forests and animals around the world.
