GIBSON CO, IN (WFIE) - A man who spent over half his life in prison for murder, has been sentenced again. This time on marijuana charges.
Richard Dillion, 46, was released last year after serving 27 years for murdering an elderly Pike County couple.
He's now been sentenced to 30 months in jail for possessing over 30 grams of marijuana.
A sentence of 18 months was advised because Dillon admitted to the crime and saved the county the time and expense of a trial.
Gibson County Prosecutor Robert Krieg argued that Dillon deserved a sentence somewhere near the maximum of 36 months because of his prior conviction.
In 1981, a Knox County jury convicted Dillon of murdering William and Mary Hilborn during a robbery.
They were found stabbed to death in their home in Petersburg.
Dillon was originally sentenced to death, but his convictions were overturned in late 1984 because of ineffective assistance of counsel.
In 1986, Dillon reached a plea agreement with the Pike County Prosecutor and was sentenced to 60 years in prison after admitting to the murders.
He was released from the Indiana Department of Corrections in August 2008.
Jay Thompson was also convicted in the Hilborn murders. He is not due to be released until 2045.
