(WFIE) - Some folks will soon be able to visit a nurse practitioner at their local Walmart.
The Walmart in Newburgh will have the first health clinic opened by Owensboro Medical Health System.
OMHS announced Wednesday three clinics will be opening at local Walmarts on both sides of the river.
The first clinic will be November 16 in Newburgh.
The other two clinics will be at the Owensboro Walmart off Highway 54 and the Henderson Walmart of U.S. 60.
OMHS said many people with minor health issues go to the emergency room when it would be cheaper and faster to go to a clinic.
"This is going to be meeting the needs of people with minor injuries and illnesses, upper respiratory illnesses, rashes, immunizations and wellness screenings, and those types of visits aren't appropriate for emergency rooms so we're hoping to fulfill a need and fill a gap in health care that isn't there right now," Cheryl Brown with OMHS said.
The clinics in Owensboro and Henderson will open at a later time.
