(NBC) - Common antibiotics may increase the risk for birth defects if taken during pregnancy, according to researchers at CDC.

Experts found women who took an antibiotic to treat urinary tract infections had an increased risk for birth defects, as well as those taking another class of drugs called sulfa drugs.

However, they found the most commonly used antibiotic during pregnancy, Penicillin, is the safest.
