EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - More flights to more destinations could soon be coming to Evansville Regional Airport.

Travelers used to have their pick of about five different airlines out of Evansville, but airline mergers and the changing needs of travelers have caused that number to dwindle to just two.

Airport Officials are in active talks with six different airlines about starting up service here.

Airport spokeswoman Dianna Kissel says they're aiming for a low-cost carrier.

Destinations being considered include Florida, New York, Minneapolis and westbound flights to create easier connections to Denver and Los Angeles.

"I will say they are names that everyone has heard of would be pleased when they find out who it is," said Kissel.. "We just really want someone who is a good, commonly known carrier that everyone knows and trusts, offers a good service and has great customer service scores and great destinations."

Kissel says one of those airlines is expected to make a decision about whether or not they'll come to Evansville by the end of this year, with service expected to possibly start early next year.
