(WFIE) - In an effort to keep drunk drivers off the roads, some Tri State businesses are offering free cab rides home this New Year's Eve.
They aren't meant for going from bar to bar, instead these companies will take you home from a bar or New Year's Eve party.
Unity Taxi has been doing this for several years in Evansville.
This year, they're expanding the service to cover Newburgh and Princeton, but it doesn't include going from one city to another.
"It's not that we don't want to take people to other cities. I mean we'll go to Indianapolis on a weekly or even daily basis, but there are going to be hundreds of people wanting cabs," said Bill Kramer of Unity Taxi.
Free rides are offered from 11:00 Thursday night until 4:00 a.m. Friday.
Just call 421-9999 and mention Woods and Woods injury lawyers.
Yellow Cab Company and Robert John and Associates are also offering free rides home, and they're teaming with First Services Towing to bring any passenger's car home at cost - $27.
They're number is 429-0000.
For one tow truck driver, it's a personal issue.
Justin Kuhns from First Service Towing says he lost his best friend soon after high school graduation in a drunken driving accident.
"Its just really hard to see families torn up by it, and we want to be a part of making sure that doesn't happen," said Kuhns.
Both companies are gearing up for a busy night.
"We've got 20 plus drivers, and we can call more if we need to. So we've got everybody prepared to be on the road tonight," said Heather Williams of Yellow Cab.
Because of the demand, they're asking people to be patient and ready to go when they call.
