Did Ghost Hunters Find 'Grey Lady'?

New Media Producer: Kerry Corum

UPDATE, THU, 12:00 PM: If you watched Ghost Hunters on Sci Fi Wednesday night, you probably noticed a familiar Evansville landmark was the focal point - Willard Library.

Ghost Hunters Grant and Jason spent the night within the ancient walls last November, in search of "The Grey Lady". And what did they find?

Well, not much. There was a mist cloud that baffled them briefly, in a corner of the library. And even some unclaimed footsteps were heard. But they were able to explain away most everything - even photos taken previously of ghostly images.

At the conclusion of their investigation, they did say however, with a thousand reports over of strange phenomenon over the years, they weren't prepared to say Willard's "Grey Lady" didn't exist.

Previously: You can watch for sightings of Willard Library's Grey Lady, right here on 14wfie.com every day - and now, she's going national. The Sci Fi channel is featuring the library's famous ghost story on Ghost Hunters.

Just about everyone is familiar with Willard Library on First Avenue. And most have heard the haunting rumors of The Grey Lady . But do ghosts really exist? And is there really a ghost within the walls of this 121-year-old library?

In November of 2005, that's exactly what the Sci Fi channel's Ghost Hunters came to Evansville to find out. Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes are plumbers by day, Ghost Hunters and founding members of TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) by night. They visit and investigate hauntings all across the country.

Last year, the pair joined Willard Director Greg Hager in an attempt to debunk the rumors of The Grey Lady. Did it work? The episode showing their investigation and results at Willard, is airing Wednesday night, April 19th at 8:00 PM.  We tried to get Greg to at least hint on the outcome, but he remains tight-lipped, even now.

Greg's an admitted skeptic, saying, "I, myself, don't believe in ghosts," although he admits to witnessing strange, inexplicable events in the library. He says he really needs to see something to believe it.

Betting Greg's is a popular view, we asked around the station, to see if WFIE employees believed in ghosts, or were steadfast skeptics like Greg.

Reporter Rhanda Stewart laughs, saying, "No, I don't believe in ghosts - because I'm afraid if I believe in them, they'll be real. I only believe in Angels. General Manager, Lucy Himstedt, is unsure. "I don't know that I don't believe in ghosts. I've just never had an experience with a ghost."

So, what do you believe? Take our poll at the top of the page to see how you compare to others in the area.

Grant and Jason ascended on the library with their crew and computers, spending the night within the ancient walls of Willard, then returning later to finish the investigation.

The Grey Lady is said to have a thing for plumbing, sometimes turning on faucets in the building - common ground for her and the Ghost Hunters. Other visitors and employees report a strong scent of perfume or sudden change in temperature.

Don't miss this episode of Ghost Hunters, to see if The Grey Lady chose to make herself known to Grant and Jason!
