The streets in Owensboro are a little safer than they were last year.

The Street Crimes Division of the Owensboro Police Department increased their arrests by 37 percent and cash recovery to 43 percent. But the biggest change, they confiscated 381 percent more marijuana than in 2005.

Police officers say there was no increase in crime, and they didn't add any officers. They credit good teamwork by the Street Crimes Division for their success.

Captain Jeff Speed, OPD, says, "They work well together. They have a strong, cohesive bond, and they have a good teamwork approach. But on top of that, it's an overall success within the community."

The money and goods confiscated go towards buying police equipment.
