Charges to be dropped in Duke case

New Media Producer: Amanda Lents

Three members of Duke University's lacrosse team are expected to hear Wednesday that all remaining charges against them in a sexual assault case will be dropped.

A person close to the case told the Associated Press that the investigation has wrapped up and the charges will be dismissed.

The local District Attorney recused himself from the case after being accused of several ethics violations tied to his handling of the investigation.

All three students have maintained their innocence.

A grand jury indicted the trio on charges of rape, kidnapping and sexual offense a year ago after a woman told police she was assaulted at the team party where she was hired to perform as an exotic dancer.

The rape charges were dropped in December after the accuser changed a key detail in her story.

The North Carolina Attorney General's Office will hold a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
