There's a new meth product out there.
Across the country, law enforcement are tracking a new type of methamphetamine designed for young users, and its headed for the Tri-State.
The taste of this new meth is changing. Police across the country are noticing a new type of meth, made with different colors, and flavors, like strawberry. Police say its made using products you can find in any grocery store.
Gibson County Sheriff, Allen Harmon, says "One of the things they're using is the powdered strawberry quick mix, chocolate mix that's a powder they put in milk to make it flavored. We've been told they're using that, and melted Lifesavers."
Sheriff Harmon says this new flavored meth is more attractive to teens, because it takes away meth's normally bitter taste, and some dealers will tell potential users this meth is safer, and has less side effects.
Sheriff Harmon, "It's the same drug. Has the same problems. It's just as dangerous and it's just as deadly as it ever was. "
Harmon says this new flavored meth isn't in Gibson County yet. It is in places like Louisville and Chicago so its likely on its way, "It moves around, and the usual way this stuff moves is from west to east that's the original track of it. "
Harmon says they're now including meth, in all its forms, in their D.A.R.E. education program in schools. He believes education is the key to stopping the demand, and ultimately winning the war on meth.
