Executive's liquidation sale begins

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The Executive Inn in downtown Evansville is hosting a liquidation sale, and what one hotel is giving away is another hotel's big bargain gains.

The Executive Inn is closed, but starting Saturday and continuing for three weeks, the hotel will host visitors in search of a deal.

"We probably have about 75 rooms of furniture down here today and we have a crew that will be starting tomorrow so we probably have about 100 rooms to sell," Michael Kabealo with Hotel Content Liquidators said.

By noon, bedspreads, towels, mattresses, and sheets were flying off the shelves, and the wait to check reached an hour.

"The mattress and the box springs were $75 and the sheet and the comforters were couple dollars a piece," shopper Brandon Wright said. "I think it's worth the wait, no big deal."

Saturday's sale didn't just benefit the residents. 

A local hotel, the River Walk Plaza Hotel, formerly called the Riverhouse, is scheduled to reopen this Tuesday and was in need of furniture and linens for 40 rooms.

"We are getting 80 of everything so we will have double for each room because we do expect a high occupancy rate when we reopen," property manager Kim Esarey with Indiana Realty Group said.

Esarey said if she would have bought all the items new, the cost per room would have been $1,200. Shopping at the Executive, she's looking at half that amount.

"We are very excited it happened when it did and it happened when we were ready to get started," Esarey said.
