HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) - The burglary suspect accused of stealing a deputy's cruiser was back in Hopkins Co. Court on Friday.

Brandon Polley's bond was set at $1 million.

The Commonwealth Attorney's Office in Madisonville said the $1 million bond was the largest that has ever been requested by the office.

Brandon Polley, 28, made is way into the Hopkins County Circuit Courtroom on Friday morning surrounded by three court bailiffs.

The Commonwealth Attorney's Office then requested Polley's bond to be set at $1 million.

"That's the largest bond we have ever asked for in our court system," Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Kathy Senter said.

Senter says the bond is warranted because of Polley's risk to the community.

Polley has escaped not once but twice from the custody of the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department.

"With the nature of the offenses and the risk to the public, and what exactly he did," Senter said. "We thought it was prudent to ask for such a high bond. We didn't want him to get out."

Earlier this week, Polley was indicted on 21 counts that include terroristic threatening, kidnapping and wanton endangerment.

Senter says the court could not deny Polley a bond because it is not a case that warrants the death penalty.

"Even with the severity of the nature of the charges Mr. Polley is facing, he is entitled to a bond," Senter said.

Senter says the Commonwealth's decision to set it's highest bond ever took careful consideration.

"That was our initial reaction, but after our initial reaction we took a step back and reviewed the case to make sure that we were not out of line asking for that bond," Senter said. "It is a pretty substantial bond."

Polley's next court date is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on September 13.
