Indiana has a new program to help the one million Hoosiers who don't have prescription drug coverage.

Governor Mitch Daniels launched the new R.X. for Indiana website Tuesday.

It was last fall he announced the idea right here in Evansville, where the website got its start.

Internist Mark Graves says the R.X. for Indiana site not only looks slick, but the timetable in which it was done was quick.

Mark Graves, M.D. of Internal Medicine, said, "Getting the first big chunk together, I think, was a huge endeavor and speaks a lot for Governor Daniels."

In October, then republican candidate Mitch Daniels came to Evansville to announce plans to model a state-wide low cost prescription website on the one already created by Doctor Graves and his oldest son Chris.

Graves rx.com allows low income patients to find and apply for discounts offered by drug manufacturers. But one thing graves rx has that R.X. for Indiana doesn't, is what's called a class specific exchange.

Dr. Graves explained, "They need information on how to change from using one drug in a class, which does not have a generic and moving it over to an equally effective drug in the class which has been around a little longer and now has a generic."

They are much cheaper. A spokesperson for Governor Daniels' office says that kind of feature may be added in the future, but as it stands now, the site still works for many.

Governor Mitch Daniels said, "I've met with Hoosiers who've had their drug costs reduced from several hundred dollars a month to literally ten to 20 by accessing these programs."

Doctor Graves has a volunteer in his office who helps the patients who need it access his site. The governor's office has trained government workers in every county to help guide the less computer savvy through the new state site.

And just in case there are some who don't have access to a computer at all, there's a toll free number available too.

If you would like to access the website, click here. If you don't have internet service, you can call the R.X. for Indiana hotline toll free at 1-877-793-0765.
