Keeping registered sex offenders off MySpace

New Media Producer: Rachel Chambliss

At a press conference in Frankfort, Kentucky, officials said a new law requires the state's 6,200 registered sex offenders to register their electronic addresses.

The new law also allows social networking sites, like MySpace, to cross check its members to keep kids safe from predators.

Hemanshu Nigam, MySpace security officer, says, "I have four kids myself, and every time my daughter crosses the street before she goes, I either grab her hand or say something that says look both ways. Those same types of educational tools apply in the online world."

MySpace has more than 162 million registered users, and there are about 100 other social networking sites on the Internet.
